Des Moines Parks and Recreation offers three aquatic centers and two swimming pools with three located minutes from downtown. These facilities offer a variety of recreational opportunities including lap swimming, diving boards and water slides.

The city of Ankeny has the Prairie Ridge Youth Sports Complex, which includes a 9,000 square foot concrete skate park, aquatic center, Lakeside Center (3,500 sqare foot facility available for conferences and receptions), walking/biking trails and knowledgeable staff to assist our visitors.

The city of Windsor Heights has a number of outdoor recreational opportunities including Colby Park, with its athletic fields, playground, performance pavilion and community center for indoor activities. Colby Park connects to the Colby Trail and the Clive Greenbelt. The new community center will open in July 2010 and has a capacity of 150 people in round tables. The city of Clive has 15 parks, including our 300-acre greenbelt with nine miles of recreational trails. The aquatic center is open approximately Memorial Day through Labor Day and features pools, slides and a lazy river.

Heritage Carousel is located in Union Park off of Pennsylvania Avenue overlooking the Birdland Marina. The hand-carved animals on the carousel include a tiger, an ostrich, a zebra, a baby elephant, a giraffe, a sea urchin and a panda. The Carousel accommodates up to thirty-five riders and is handicap accessible.
