Full Court Press, Inc. was formed by the owners of Buzzard Billy’s and three Buzzard Billy’s employees. FCP is responsible for some of Des Moines’ favorite bars and restaurants. FCP, Inc. started in 2000 by seven guys who had a few concepts they thought might work in the great town of Des Moines. The first project was the Royal Mile in December of 2001. The Royal Mile is a British Pub with a small Belgian bar called The Red Monk upstairs, which opened in June of 2004. The Hessen Haus was opened in January of 2004 and celebrated Des Moines’ first Oktoberfest in September of 2004. In February 2005 The High Life Lounge, a 1960’s corner tap opened. The success of the High Life Lounge was followed by the opening of el Bait Shop in April of 2006. June of 2008 saw the opening of Sbrocco a casual, yet sophisticated neighborhood wine bar and restaurant. January 2009 brought Des Moines its first Chinese Pizzeria and Tiki bar, Fong’s Pizza. In March 2010 Shorty’s a hidden away Irish pub was opened in the basement of Sbrocco. In May of 2010, Mullet’s was opened, downtown’s only riverside tavern with great food and drink and a two story deck with a spectacular view of downtown and the State Capitol Building.
