Shopaholics Welcome

Groups will delight in all of Des Moines' shopping destinations.

Day 1
Start the morning with coffee at Java Joe’s Coffeehouse, followed by a trip to Historic Valley Junction. This charming, renovated railroad district has a collection of more than 120 retail businesses, including art galleries, fashion boutiques, antique shops, restaurants and specialty stores. Travel downtown to El Bait Shop, Proof Restaurant or Panera Bread for lunch.

After eating, walk through the downtown skywalk system to Kaleidoscope @ the Hub. Downtown Des Moines is home to more than four miles of a climate-controlled skywalk! The Kaleidoscope @ the Hub offers more than 30 national and local shops. You can also grab a snack at several restaurants throughout the mall, including the food court located on the third floor.

Next, make your way to an outdoor gear shopping center and museum, Bass Pro Shops.Make sure to snag a sample in their famous fudge shop.

Homemakers in Des Moines has one of the top ten largest showrooms in America, offering a great selection of furniture, mattresses and accessories. Free cookies are a treat for shoppers with a sweet tooth.

For dinner with flair, try Ohana Steakhouse. Chefs use the art of Hibachi cooking, which portrays comedy, juggling and some magic to make your meal unforgettable! Other choices in the area include Mullets or Centro.

Day 2
Jordan Creek Town Center is a 200-acre retail, dining, entertainment and recreational development center featuring 125 retailers in a dynamic combination of upscale fashion and lifestyle retailers in a streetscape designs.

Whether you need something hot for the party or sophisticated for a momentous occasion, there are many options at West Glen Town Center. Mingle through the walking landscapes and avenues of style.

Have lunch at Gino’s West Glen. This family-owned restaurant features aged steaks, Italian pan-fried chicken, seafood and homemade cavatelli.

After lunch, make your way to West End Architectural Salvage, an adventure in treasures, texture and tradition. Discover five floors of treasures that each tell a story. Call Owner Don Short at (515) 243-0499 to make arrangements.

For dinner, experience Court District at its best! Have dinner at Johnny’s Hall of Fame or Dos Rios Cantina and Tequila Lounge.

Day 3
Let your shopping bags direct you to the Historic East Village, located on the heels of the Iowa State Capitol, this area is known for its local, one-of-a kind shops. Stop at Gong Fu Tea and Raygun.

Travel to Court District for lunch at Fong’s Pizza. This Chinese pizza house boasts crab rangoons, pizza rolls, egg rolls, Thai Chicken Pizza or The Big Delicious. Other lunch options include South Union Bread Café and Splash Seafood Bar & Grill.

End your day, at Valley West Mall, a premier shopping center offering three department stores - Von Maur, Younkers and JC Penney, not to mention many other specialty shops.
